Meet the Founder

Greetings!

My name is Selina and I’m a Texas licensed and ASHA certified speech-language pathologist with 18 years experience in the field. I’ve spent years serving early childhood and elementary students, and offer a unique opportunity to childcare centers in and around the Pearland area based on my experiences with my students and their families.

In my time with the school district, as well as in home health, I encountered many parents of children of all ages who came to me for a speech consultation whose children had mild to moderate delays that were not severe enough to qualify them for speech services. Due to the strict criteria required to meet eligibility for services, I could do little more than empower parents with a few communication strategies and send them on their way. In doing so, hoping that the necessary speech and language skills would be naturally acquired by the child over time. Parents of typically developing children would also ask how to continue to build speech and language skills at home, to which I would provide general guidelines but felt this should really be an ongoing process as their children grew.

I knew there was something that could be done, and my experiences showed me there was a need for lots of children to have extra speech and language instruction, without necessarily being labeled as delayed or disordered. I also saw the benefits of offering a head start on the language learning expected in kindergarten for typically developing children, as the kindergarten curriculum demand has grown.

That’s when I was inspired to create Sprinkle of Speech®, as an opportunity for more children in our area to have access to a speech language pathologist without all the red tape.  I offer a weekly speech and language lesson targeting many areas of communication that are beneficial to typically developing kids, as well as those who could use a little extra help in acquiring communication. I’m passionate about empowering parents with simple and easy strategies they can incorporate in everyday routines to facilitate communication for their children. Parents of enrolled children receive frequent newsletters detailing the speech and language targets for the week, including how to work on these skills at home. I also believe with consistent participation that my program will give children an advantage when starting kindergarten, as it is a literacy-based driven system that is backed by years of research in the field of speech language pathology12345. I look forward to partnering with you to give your children an extra SPRINKLE of Speech and language!
