How old does my child need to be to participate in the Sprinkle of Speech® program? The program is designed for children ages 3 and up. However, if your child is 2 or older, and feel that he or she is able to listen to a story, follow simple directions, engage in age-appropriate activities, and attempt to answer questions, then it is at your discretion if you think he or she is able to participate. As with all enrolled children, we will reach out if we think the program is not of benefit and/or if your child is not an active participant for several consecutive weeks.
Does my child have to qualify or be diagnosed with a speech disorder to participate in Sprinkle of Speech®? No! Sprinkle of Speech® is open to ALL children with no evaluation or diagnosis needed! In fact, if your child does have a diagnosis of speech delay or disorder, Sprinkle of Speech® may be a good supplement to individualized speech therapy, but is not a replacement since your child will be working on goals tailored to his or her specific needs in traditional speech therapy. However, at Sprinkle of Speech® we understand that not all children will qualify for an IEP or meet medical necessity for services, one of the many reasons parents have enrolled their children in the program.
How long is each lesson? Each Sprinkle of Speech® lesson is different in its structure, but most lessons will be approximately 30 minutes in length.
What if I enroll my child, but change his or her daycare/private school? Email us to find out if the program is offered at your child’s new daycare. If not, you are able to cancel enrollment at anytime. We may also be able to reach out to your child’s new daycare and find out if they are interested in partnering with us!
I’d like to update my credit/debit card information, who do I contact? We will also be in touch to let you know if your card is no longer valid at the time of the monthly billing cycle.
What if my child is sick/absent when Sprinkle of Speech® is scheduled? We understand that little ones may sometimes be unwell and unable to attend on the day Sprinkle of Speech® is scheduled. While we empathize with these situations, please note that refunds and make-up sessions for missed lessons are not provided. The reason for this policy is that your monthly/annual fee covers the reservation of your child’s spot in our program, ensuring that we maintain small group sizes for personalized attention and high-quality sessions, rather than the physical attendance of each session.
To support your child’s continuous learning, we encourage you to refer to the parent newsletter for the week, which includes suggestions and strategies to target the speech and language skills at home. Additionally, check the enrollment page for your daycare’s specific day of the week and time for Sprinkle of Speech®, as this will allow you to plan accordingly for your child’s attendance.
What if the program is unable to be delivered to my child on his/her scheduled day? Our Sprinkle of Speech® program is designed to deliver 33 lessons throughout the school year. In the rare event that a session cannot be conducted on the scheduled day due to natural weather events, illness, or any unforeseen emergency, we will make every effort to reschedule the missed lesson.
We understand the importance of each Sprinkle of Speech® lesson in your child’s development. Therefore, if a make-up lesson cannot be arranged before the end of the school year, we are committed to refunding for any lesson that falls below the annual 33-lesson curriculum. This policy ensures that your investment reflects the full value and number of sessions your child is entitled to receive as part of their enrollment.
I want to enroll my child, but it’s the middle of the school year, is this okay? Yes! You may enroll your child at any time throughout the school year as pricing is updated weekly to reflect the number of remaining lessons. Please email us at admin@sprinkleofspeech.com if you have questions regarding billing should you choose to join our program during the school year.
My child is already in speech therapy, does this program replace that? No. This program is NOT a replacement for speech therapy, it is an enrichment program that includes parent education. If your child currently receives speech therapy, please continue those services. This is an additional speech-language learning opportunity for your child provided in a small group setting, and is not a substitute for individualized therapy instruction. In addition, no diagnostic services are provided. If you suspect your child has a communication delay please request a referral from your pediatrician and seek an evaluation from a recommended provider.
My child stutters, can Sprinkle of Speech help him/her? While Sprinkle of Speech® does not directly teach stuttering modification or fluency shaping strategies, we do work on where in the mouth we make sounds and what “articulators” we use (lips, tongue, teeth, throat, etc.) This can provide a framework if individualized speech therapy is needed, as this is the first step in teaching a child where he or she feels the “bumpy speech.” We also spend time on story retelling and group discussion, which can assist in building confidence in the child who stutters by speaking in front of the group.
How do I know how my child is doing in Sprinkle of Speech®? Although the program is welcoming and open to all children, if we believe your child is not benefiting or is unable/unwilling to participate you will hear from us and receive a refund for the remainder of the year’s lessons if you paid in full (or not be billed further if paying month to month.) Otherwise, please reach out to us anytime to find out about your child’s participation. Unlike traditional speech therapy, there are no goals/progress to report specific to your child since we work on different speech and language targets each week in a small group. Therefore, if you feel you require frequent updates or specific data about your child’s skills, the program may not be the right fit for you. This is an enrichment program, and not structured like traditional speech therapy with progress reporting, allowing for its cost effectiveness. You may prefer to seek private services for your child that can provide standardized testing and frequent progress updates. We would also love to hear how you feel your child’s communication has improved since starting in the program!
How does the pricing work? Sprinkle of Speech® pricing is based on $24 per lesson, for a total of 33 lessons/$792 per year and is divided out over the remaining months of the program. Pricing is updated weekly to reflect the remaining number of lessons in the school year. You will be billed the monthly amount on the same day of the month from the time of enrollment through May. If you are enrolling before August 1st, your first payment is due at time of enrollment, with the next payment due September 1st. For example, if you are enrolling for next school year on May 20th, your first payment is billed that day. The next installment will be billed on September 1st, and on the 1st of the month from then until May of that school school year. Does insurance cover the cost of the program? Sprinkle of Speech® is not covered by insurance, as this would require an evaluation/diagnosis, goals specific to your child, and ongoing progress notes for those goals to validate medical necessity. There is no need for any diagnosis or evaluation to participate in Sprinkle of Speech® which contributes to its cost-effectiveness for families. However, some families have reported utilizing their HSA funds to pay for the program.
My pediatrician recommends a speech therapy evaluation, can I enroll my child in Sprinkle of Speech® instead? If your child’s doctor recommends a speech therapy evaluation, it is advised you reach out to a private speech therapy clinic or your zoned public elementary campus for an evaluation. However, Sprinkle of Speech® serves many children who are on waiting lists for private services or in addition to those services as a supplemental enrichment program.
Do you offer any private one-on-one speech services? At this time, Sprinkle of Speech® is only offered in a group lesson. Please reach out to your zoned public elementary school or a private speech clinic for a consultation/evaluation to find out if your child qualifies for services.
Do you offer any summer services? Sprinkle of Speech® runs alongside the school calendar from August to May and is structured for 33 total lessons per school year. There is a 12 week break from mid-May to mid-August each year.
